Deborah Pae, cello
Cellist Deborah Pae is captivating audiences on world stages as a seasoned recitalist and chamber musician. Since her international debut in 2003 at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards honoring cellist Mstislav Rostropovich and her European recital debut in 2005 on the Musée de Louvre recital series in Paris, Ms. Pae has performed across four continents and appeared at the invitation of Palais des Beaux-Arts, Musée de Grenoble, Neue Galerie, Artists Ascending Recital Series, and the Van Wezel Foundation’s Young Artists Series. She has performed extensively at a number of highly regarded festivals including Marlboro, Ravinia, 7th Adam International Cello Festival in New Zealand, Amsterdam Cello Biënnale, International Musicians Seminar and Open Chamber Music at Prussia Cove (UK), the Perlman Music Program, and has been a participating artist on Ravinia’s 2012 Steans on Tour.
Highlights of Ms. Pae’s 2012-13 season include performances at BOZAR theater in Brussels, Max- Josef-Salle of the Munich Residenz, and with the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie under the direction of Augustin Dumay and Jean-François Chamberlan. She will also be recording the second cello concerto by Saint-Saëns with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège to be released by Fuga Libera in late 2013.
An accomplished and devoted chamber musician, Ms. Pae has shared the stage with many of the world’s celebrated artists including Itzhak Perlman, Arnold Steinhardt, Pamela Frank, Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, Kim Kashkashian, Paul Katz, Hamish Milne, Charles Neidich, members of the Guarneri, Juilliard, Johannes, and Takács String Quartets, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. During the 2011-12 season, she appeared in concert in New York’s Merkin Hall, Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Indiana’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, and Chicago’s Ravinia Festival “Rising Star” series. She has also been a guest artist on the Schneider Concert Series, Rhinebeck Chamber Music Series, and concertized at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., National Arts Club, and Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Ms. Pae performs frequently with violinist Itzhak Perlman and has accompanied him to Israel, China, Florida, and Vermont for residencies with the Perlman Music Program. She has appeared on PBS’s “Live From Lincoln Center” in 2003 and CBS’s Kennedy Center Honors with Mr. Perlman and Pinkas Zuckerman. Her solo and chamber performances have also been broadcast on Radio France, Chicago’s WFMT Chamber Music from Ravinia and Live from the Mayne Stage, CBS and Plum TV Networks.
Ms. Pae is a graduate of the Juilliard School and New England Conservatory where she studied with Joel Krosnick and Laurence Lesser, and has been closely mentored by violist Kim Kashkashian and violinists Miriam Fried and Sylvia Rosenberg. She is a 2012 Frank Huntington Beebe Fund recipient and is artist-in-residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapelle in Belgium where she is working with Gary Hoffman.
She plays on a Vuillaume cello (ca. 1860) generously on loan to her from the Ravinia Festival.
