Eunae Koh, violin

Eunae Koh

Violinist Eunae Koh was born in South Korea and received her early training from violinist Bonjiu Koo at the Pre-college of Korean National University. Eunae entered Yewon School (a middle school for young artists) at the top of her Violin Class and attended Seoul Arts High School where she studied with violinist Sunny Lee. After graduating from Seoul Arts High School as the top student in her music program, she studied with violinist Young Uck Kim at Seoul National University where she graduated as valedictorian. Also, Eunae continued her studies by participating in some music Academies including Summit Music Festival, TIMF Academy, Young Uck Kim Summer Music Academy, Seoul Arts Center music camp, and Young Artist Festival of Chamber Music. She also performed in masterclasses by Zakhar Bron, Aaron Rosand, Ilyar Kaler, Mincho Mincev, Miriam Fried, Victor Danchenko, and Anthony Marwood. Currently, she is studying with Donald Weilerstein at New England Conservatory for a Master’s Degree.

Eunae was awarded Seongyoung Park Special Prize at the Isang Yun International Violin Competition. In addition, she won numerous national competitions in South Korea; the grand prize at Sungjung Music Competition, first prize at Ewha & Kyunghyang Competition, Korean Chamber Ensemble’s Competition, and Joong-Ang Music Competition. Along with being a recipient of Seoul National University Development Fund Scholarship, Eunae also won an award from Yewon School & Seoul Arts High School for outstanding performance.

At the age of 13, this violinist gave her first recital at Kumho Art Hall. After that, she joined many concerts including Young Artists Concert, Tongyoung Academy Concert, Spirit of SNU Strings (at Seoul Arts Center), and Korean folk music & contemporary music concert. In 2012, under Kumho Art Hall’s request, she gave a solo recital again. Also, she has performed with a number of orchestras including Yewon Orchestra at Seoul Arts Center (N. Paganini “La Campanella), SungJung Philharmonic Orchestra (J. Brahms Violin Concerto), USP Chamber Orchestra (W. A. Mozart Violin Concerto No.3), SNU Philharmonic Orchestra (F. Mendelssohn Violin Concerto), M4one Chamber Ensemble (L. Maurer Sinfonia Concertante for 4 Violins), and SNU Symphony Orchestra (J. Sibelius Violin Concerto).

Besides her own works, Eunae is passionate about orchestral engagements. She served as a concertmaster of Seoul Arts High School Orchestra, SNU Philharmonic Orchestra, SNU Symphony Orchestra, and NEC Philharmonia. Currently, she serves as an assistant concertmaster of the Boston Civic Symphony. Also, she will serve as a concertmaster of Haffner Sinfonietta beginning next fall.
