Mathilde Geismar, viola

Violist Mathilde Geismar is an active teacher, chamber musician and artist residing in Angers, France.

Raised in Paris, she studied à Yale School of Music with Jesse Levine and Ettore Causa, and at the New England Conservatory with Kim Kashkashian. During her time in the United States, she played with the Image Piano quartet, winner of the Chamber Music Society competition in New Haven in 2009. She then studied with the Borromeo String quartet ; her ensemble was broadcasted on AMF radio in 2010. As a baroque violist, she toured in Asia with Robert Mealy and Simon Carrington as a guest artist of the Yale Collegium Singers. She also taught in various institutions including Yale University, New England Conservatory Preparatory School and elementary school programs. Since its creation in 2011, she is the president of an international music academy in France.

Her artistic training includes ballet and modern dance studies at the Boulogne Conservatory, with teachers from the Paris Opera Ballet, as well as sculpture and art history. Mathilde is also very intellectual. She graduated both high school and Yale at the top of her class. She enjoys putting together lecture recitals, notably a very praised one on “Old Sources, New Inspirations”, about 18th century performance practice. Finally, her studies of Political Science and Psychology inspire her in creating performance art pieces that are relevant to our time, and present music as both an emotional and intellectual experience.
