Rainer Crosett, cello

Rainer Crosett is a fifth-year cellist in the Harvard-New England Conservatory Joint Program. He received his A.B. magna cum laude in Philosophy from Harvard, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and the Signet Society of Arts and Letters, and he is currently completing his M.M. at NEC, where he studies with Paul Katz. In lessons, coachings, and masterclasses, he has also benefited from the guidance of luminaries such as Bernard Greenhouse, Gary Hoffman, Ralph Kirshbaum, Yo-Yo Ma, Benjamin Zander, Robert Levin, and Sylvia Rosenberg. He has collaborated in chamber music performances with Robert Levin, Anthony Marwood, and Seth Knopp, and has participated in the Yellow Barn, Kneisel Hall, Sarasota, and Aspen Music Festivals. He has also served as principal cellist of the New York String Orchestra, the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra.

He is passionate about finding ways to effect social change through music, and has focused particularly on the issue of North Korean human rights in his own advocacy efforts. He has organized and performed in several fundraising concerts in both the U.S. and South Korea to benefit North Korean defectors.
